17 – The Historic 335

Two guitars came in for a clean and set up from a good friend. This first, this 335 and the second an incredible John Mayer Acoustic (the next post).

So first, the 335.  Incredible guitar. Incredibly dirty guitar. The first step was taking all the strings off and looking to see just how dirty this thing was… dirt and dust on the body, dirt build up stuck to most of the fretboard and a lot of dirt and dust in the bridge and saddles.

SO! Step 1, get the body & the headstock clean. First step, get the dust off and clean and polish the body. The next step take the wire wool to the fretboard to remove the years of dirt build up. The second step, oil the fretboard. The third step, polish the frets!

A set of D’addario 10-52’s and we’re on to the last step, the re-string, full set up and intonation… all of which went without a hitch and this guy plays like a dream.
