This guy belongs to my brother. I played, it was nice it but it needed a set up to get it just right. The tuning wouldn’t hold and the intonation was really off.
So the first thing when I got it on the bench did was asses it, tweak it and see how it sat. It still wasn’t holding as it should so I took the strings off and went straight to the bridge plate. The first thing was to lock the bridge plate, he doesn’t play it with a tremolo bar so it made sense to lock it down.
The next step was to clean everything up! The body and metal hardware needed a polish and a buff to get them back to a nice shine.
The frets were in great shape and the board wasn’t too bad. I took some fine grade wire wool to the board to remove any marks (following the grain) and then slowly worked my way up the board and polished the frets off, they didn’t need a lot to get them looking good again!
The next step was to restring it. Originally it came in with a set of 9’s, so we moved it up to 10-46’s which still give a lot of movement and are lighter on the fingers but, they hold the tuning much better.
Tweak the intonation, tweak the neck relief to give it a touch more and it’s good to go!
